Happy day everyone! I'm long overdue for some happy thoughts...click the "happy thoughts" tab on the sidebar to read my prior ones. Anyway, today I'm on numbers 8-10, so let's get to it! Happy Thought #8: I uncovered my old CD player from long ago, and it's perfect for blaring my CDs loudly. Plus, it has the radio so I can listen to my favorite stations. Happy Thought #9: I'm temporarily caught up on my blog posts and it feels great to have a whole month written. Happy Thought #10: My cute little cactus, Tina. Feel free to share your own happy thoughts! See you in the comments!

Greetings wonderful blog readers! As always, I hope you're having a great day. :-) Today I'm going to have an interesting (at least I think so) post about apps for bookish people! Most people nowadays have either a device or a computer/laptop that includes apps. There are some that come with them (like the messages app on a phone or safari on a laptop) and then you download ones that you want later, like games and stuff. As you can see by the picture above, which is a screenshot (with added text, in the app PicLab) of an app folder on my iPad. And those are my.... Right now, I don't have that many. But I wanted to explain to you the ones I do have, and then ask for what you have, so maybe everyone can benefit off suggestions. Let's begin! 1.) Microsoft Word This is basically like the Microsoft you would find on a computer, except it's an app. It's SUPER helpful for stories and it has most of the features on the other one, too. You can just type using your fingers, but I have a keyboard for my tablet that's much easier to use. The same goes for almost all of the other apps where you're writing. 2.) Weebly Hmmm....this one isn't for everyone. It's only for those who have a website or blog with Weebly, because you can write posts and edit on it, which is really helpful when you're in the car or the computers are dead. 3.) OverDrive THIS IS A LIFESAVER! It has tons of libraries hidden within it. You find yours by typing in your city or zipcode. Then all you have to do is type in your library card number and you can freely check out books from your library's online library and read them on your device. I do it with my town's public library as well as my school library. 4.) Notes I know this one comes with any Apple device. It's also a lifesaver! If there's a writing app that needs Internet connection but you're in the middle of nowhere, guess what? You can STILL WRITE YOUR STORY! Welcome to Notes, the wi-fi free app where you can write anything for as long as you want. 5.) Docs That's Google Docs, more specifically. I'm required to have a Google account for school, and if you have a Gmail account, that means you have one too. It's basically an entire DRIVE where you can just WRRRIIIIITTTTEEEEE!!!!!! And it's free. Why not get it? Hope all enjoyed! Tell me about your bookish apps in the comments!
-Olivia Ello all! If you remember a post I did earlier, about the books I got for Christmas, then you'll recognize what today's review is about- Out of My Mind, by Sharon M. Draper! Title: Out of My Mind Author: Sharon M. Draper Amount of Pages on Paperback Copy: 295 Blurb on Back Cover: Eleven-year-old Melody has a photographic memory. Her head is like a video camera that is always recording. Always. And there's no delete button. She's the smartest kid in her whole school- but NO ONE knows it. Most people- her teachers and doctors included -don't think she's capable of learning, and up until recently her school days consisted of listening to the same preschool-level alphabet lessons again and again and again. If only she could speak up, if only she could tell people what she thinks and knows...but she can't, because Melody can't talk. She can't walk. She can't write. Being stuck inside her head is making Melody go out of her mind- that is, until she discovers something that will allow her to speak for the first time ever. At last Melody has a voice...but not everyone around her is ready to hear it. My Review: WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY WHEN I READ A BOOK LIKE THIS? It. Was. Flawless. Should I let Mary Poppins say it for me? And it was. IT WAS. Melody is an amazing character. I felt like I should feel sorry for her- after all, she's a genius who can't tell anyone, but she's so, I don't know, normal about it. I felt more sorry for everyone around her, because they totally judged her and that was terrible. If there's a lesson in this book, that's it: DON'T JUDGE ANYONE. It would be so easy to judge someone like Melody. But you can't, because you can't have any idea what they know and what's happening in their head. Just because a person can't talk or walk doesn't mean they aren't human. They have thoughts, and it's our job to listen to them. This book taught me a lot. I love how she got to do "inclusion classes" which was where she went to a classroom with all the other kids and did class with them. I think that's really cool. But her buddy, Rose, was not someone I was a fan of- that much. I liked her okay, but you have to read the book to understand her iffy behavior. Around Melody, she's a bright little buttercup, but when someone judges her for being with Melody, she gets way too embarrassed. Almost like she's faking it. And then there's Mrs. V, probably my favorite character for obvious reasons if you read the book. She reminds of Great-Aunt Abyssinia from Once Upon a Toad by Heather Vogel Frederick. The sense of fashion (or lack of). The hair (at least in my imagination). The ability to be maybe the kindest person you've met but also be really tall and loud. I also like Penny, Melody's younger sister. At first, I didn't understand why she was needed in the book. She didn't seem to have a purpose, exactly, but as the book progressed everything fell in place and I was left with that AH-HA moment when you realize that yes, the author does in fact know what they are doing. So thank you, Sharon M. Draper. For that beautiful moment. Of course, I award this book 5 stars. It deserves nothing less! Have you read Out of My Mind? What did you think of it? See you in the comments!
-Olivia Welcome to January's edition of Writer's Digest! In case you didn't know, that's the series I've been doing about writing on the second Tuesday of each month, starting in October. You can click here, here, and here to read my other ones. :-) The purpose for this series? It's that simple. ON TO THE THICK OF THE POST! 1.) If I didn't write, I would spend way too much time watching TV. When I think about all the time I spend writing (whether it's a story or a blog post) I would have hours and hours and hours of free time. It sounds good, but it would also scare me to have that much freedom. Plus, I might turn into a couch potato from staring at the TV screen all day. 2.) If I didn't write, I wouldn't have some of the friends I do. I got to know a lot of people better in my ILA class and a writing club last year at school that wouldn't have ever really talked to if we hadn't both loved to write (and read). That would be sad... 3.) If I didn't write, I would not be able to think straight. There are so many ideas and characters and plots percolating in my head at all times. If I didn't write....I shiver to think of what would happen inside my brain. Probably, my characters would start a revolution against me. 4.) If I didn't write, there would be three empty drawers in my desk! Two of them hold my extensive collection of journals, and the other is stuffed with notebook paper filled with stories and words. 5) If I didn't write, I wouldn't know what to do. What would my calling be? Reading? Dancing? Art? Singing? Music? 6.) If I didn't write, this blog post wouldn't exist. End of story. I hope everyone liked this post and reading it! Please comment below what would happen if you didn't write...Maybe you don't like writing. It's fine! Just pick something you couldn't exactly live without and then tell us what would happen if you couldn't do it. See you soon!
-Olivia Hi everyone! Quick announcement! On my last post, the one about the books I got for Christmas, I got a lot of results on my survey! The winner for the review was Counting By 7s! You'll be getting one for Out of My Mind later this month, and CB7s will be up either in February or early March, due to me writing-then-scheduling posts ahead of time. But YOU WILL get it, since you chose it. Okay. Onto the real post. Today I have a post for you that's been waiting for a long time to get written and out there. It's....MY ROOM REDECORATION! Over the summer, I (why am I saying I? so many people helped) completely redid my room! I've been wanting to post about it for ages, but life always seems to get in the way of my being able to just sit down and type type type posts. But, January seemed to be a good time for this post, since it's a fresh new year! Honestly, it doesn't even look like the same room. :-) I kept pretty much all of the same furniture (except for the bed), we just painted everything white. (Stop spoiling it, self.) So, without further ado or ada... LET THE TOUR BEGIN! I have a hard time believing that's the same room! (Well, the beside table is the same.) By the way, the wall color in my "new" room is never portrayed perfectly in any of the pictures. But this one in particular is pretty close. No, my room did not get bigger. :-) It was just a different angle. There are a few little similarities, like the tiny owls and the owl piggyback, plus the lamp is just a different color. We just painted the dresser white and changed out the knobs for a different look! The books never change too much...just some paint and new additions since I redid it! Gone is the chalkboard, chair, and drawers! It doesn't even look like the same corner, in my opinion. In the right picture, you can see my torso and legs. Hehe. THE BIGGEST CHANGE OF ALL! The desk was painted, the things on it *mostly* changed, and I got a different bulletin board with other stuff on it. Finally, I got rid of the chair (I need to get one) and the shelf above the desk. I hope you enjoyed a peek into my life! My room is where I spend almost all of my time at home. I thought you all would like to see it, especially after its renovation. Enjoy your day! See you in the comments! I'd love to hear what your rooms look like...
